Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza's house has reportedly been vandalized and set on fire by miscreants amid the nationwide unrest over job quota which also forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to quit and flee.
Mortaza turned politician following his retirement and is an elected member of the Parliament from the Narail-2 constituency in Khulna division. Earlier this year he secured his seat for the second consecutive term as a candidate of the Awami League, a party led by Sheikh Hasina.

Mortaza joined politics in 2018 post his retirement and is huge supporter of the underfire Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to reports in the Bangladesh media, miscreants vandalized and set Mortaza's house ablaze after Sheikh Hasina, 76, left the country in the wake of massive student protests.
During his cricketing career, Mashrafe Mortaza led Bangladesh in 117 matches across formats, the most for his country. He took 390 international wickets and scored 2,955 runs in 36 Tests, 220 ODIs, and 54 T20Is.
There were also reports of cricketers Litton Das' house being attack. But those were just rumours circulating on social media as it was Mortaza's house being portrayed as Das' home by some users on X.
The protestors took to streets on Monday (August 5) and reportedly vandalized temples among other monuments before the Prime Minister resigned and fled the country.
Rumours of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan supporting the students protest also was spread across social media, but even that was fake and not connected to the current situation in the country.
According to Bangladeshi media outlet Prothom Alo, Hasan posted the alleged video during the 2018 student protests advocating for better roads. This followed a controversial text post on the same issue.
The 2024 student protests, however, were in opposition of the country's quota system and the protest soon escalated into demands for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation. So, some people have used the old video to falsely claim Shakib has supported the protests.
