Bangladesh cricket was struck by concern on Monday morning as former national team captain Tamim Iqbal was rushed to hospital after experiencing chest pain during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match.
The incident occurred during the 50-over fixture between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP-3 ground in Savar, where Tamim was leading Mohammedan.

According to match referee Debabrata Paul, speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Tamim began to feel discomfort shortly after the toss. Although he initially took the field, he only managed to complete one over before leaving due to chest pain. He was swiftly taken to the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly known as Fazilatunnesa Hospital), located nearby. Initially, arrangements were made for an emergency helicopter to fly him out, but that plan could not proceed due to health complications.
"He was in good spirits during the toss," BKSP chief cricket coach Montu Dutta told reporters in the afternoon. "When he felt sick, he left the field and took his own car to the hospital. The doctors there did not want to let him leave at the time, but Tamim left anyway and was arranging an air ambulance himself."
After medical advice and further testing at the hospital, doctors confirmed that Tamim had a blockage in his heart. The 34-year-old was then taken in for emergency angioplasty, a procedure carried out promptly to address the issue.
ESPNcricinfo reported that after the initial consultation, Tamim attempted to return to the ground to travel to another hospital by air ambulance, but due to his deteriorating health condition, this was not possible. He was then taken back to the original hospital where doctors performed the emergency procedure.
"For now, he is out of immediate danger and hope all Bangladesh cricket fans pray for him," added Dutta, echoing the collective concern and prayers of the entire cricketing community.
In response to the alarming situation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) immediately cancelled a scheduled board meeting that was to take place on Monday afternoon. BCB president Faruque Ahmed, along with other senior board members, rushed to the hospital to be with Tamim and receive updates on his condition.
Tamim Iqbal, one of Bangladesh's most iconic cricketers and the country's highest run-scorer in both ODIs and Tests, has been a pillar of strength and consistency for more than a decade. His sudden health scare has left fans, teammates, and officials deeply concerned.
Messages of support have poured in on social media from current and former players, cricket boards, and fans from across the globe. The incident has not only affected the mood of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League but also cast a shadow over Bangladesh cricket as a whole.
At the BKSP-3 ground, play continued, but the focus had clearly shifted away from cricket. Players and officials from both teams, as well as match officials, were seen regularly checking for updates on Tamim's condition. The collective hope remains that he will recover fully and soon return to the sport he has served with distinction.
The entire cricketing fraternity now stands together in sending prayers and well wishes to Tamim Iqbal, hoping for his speedy recovery. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Tamim is currently out of immediate danger following the successful angioplasty, and Bangladesh cricket will be eagerly waiting to see their beloved star back on his feet.
