By MyKhel Staff

India all-rounder Rishi Dhawan, a medium-fast bowling all-rounder and a former member of the Mumbai Indians squad, has announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket.

Dhawan, 34, made the announcement on social media, expressing gratitude for his cricketing journey that spanned over two decades. Dhawan, who represented India in three ODIs and one T20I, had limited international opportunities.

In his ODI appearances, he scored 12 runs and claimed a solitary wicket, while his T20I debut yielded one run and one wicket. Despite his modest international record, Dhawan's impact on domestic and franchise cricket was noteworthy. The Himachal Pradesh cricketer was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2013, contributing to their maiden IPL title under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

Playing six matches that season, Dhawan took two wickets and scored 21 runs. Over his IPL career, he played 39 matches for Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, and Kolkata Knight Riders, securing 25 wickets and scoring 210 runs. Dhawan's domestic achievements solidify his legacy. In 134 List A matches, he scored 2,906 runs at an impressive average of 38.23 and took 186 wickets at an average of 29.74.

His T20 career included 1740 runs at a strike rate of 121.33 and 118 wickets at an economy rate of 7.06. Among his career highlights was leading Himachal Pradesh to their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title in 2021-22, where he excelled with both bat and ball.

Acknowledging his journey, Dhawan credited the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), and his IPL teams for shaping his career. "Cricket has been my passion, and my reason for waking up every morning," Dhawan wrote.

While stepping away from white-ball cricket, Dhawan will continue representing Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. In the ongoing season, he has already made significant contributions, scoring 397 runs at an average of 79.40 and taking 11 wickets at 28.45.

As Dhawan transitions away from limited-overs cricket, his commitment to first-class cricket promises to inspire the next generation of cricketers from Himachal Pradesh.
