Former Ranji cricketer's mortal remains consigned to flames
Visakhapatnam, Jan 10 (UNI) The mortal remains of former Ranji cricketer Leela Prasad was consigned to the flames in the city here today.
Prasad 60, a noted sportsman and former Ranji captain, played a stellar role in developing cricket in North Andhra.
Passed away in Vijayawada yesterday, after suffering a massive cardiac arrest, his body arrived here in the morning by a flight and was kept on the premises of the Leela Mahal.
He is survived by his wife and a son. Prasad had gone to Vijayawada to watch the Andhra-Delhi Ranji tie in which his son had played. Later, he went to Gudur for some work and suffered the stroke near Vijayawada while returning. He died before he was taken to the hospital, his ralatives said.
His son R V Ch Prasad, who had gone to Uttar Pradesh to play the Ranji match, had rushed here by afternoon flight.
Former BCCI Chairman D V Subba Rao said Mr Prasad played a crucial role in bringing Vizag cricket to the centre stage. He was the Chairman of the selection committee for the Ranji trophy team and founder member of the Andhra Cricket Association(ACA), he added.
