Frank Duckworth, a renowned cricket statistician and co-creator of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, passed away on June 21. ICC announced the sad news that the co-creator of the DLS method was no more.
The DLS method is widely used in cricket for calculating weather-adjusted targets. Duckworth served as a consultant statistician with the International Cricket Council (ICC) until his retirement in 2014.

Born in 1939 in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, Duckworth attended King Edward VII School before pursuing his higher education at the University of Liverpool. He obtained a BSc Hons in physics in 1961 and later earned a PhD in metallurgy in 1965.
Before retiring, Duckworth worked as a mathematical scientist for the English nuclear power industry. He also held positions as a consultant statistician to the International Cricket Council and editor of the Royal Statistical Society's (RSS) monthly news magazine, RSS News, until 2014.
Wasim Khan, ICC General Manager of Cricket Operations, expressed his condolences in a statement, saying, "Frank was a top statistician who was respected by peers as well as the wider cricket fraternity."
He added that the DLS method, which Duckworth co-created, has stood the test of time and continues to be used in international cricket over two decades after its inception.
