From Retirement to Resurgence: Mohammad Amir's stellar Return as Pakistan's Most Impactful Bowler at T20 World Cup

Pakistan's experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir must have been pleased as punch upon making a stellar impact with the ball on his return to international cricket. The left-arm paceman followed fellow teammate Imad Wasim's route by reversing international retirement to make himself available for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Notably, his comeback was indeed worth applauding as he hit the right areas on demanding conditions to become a leader of Pakistan's pace attack in the ongoing marquee event.

Having played three games so far, he accounted for five dismissals at a bowling average of 12.60 and the fact that he was well able to get accustomed to the conditions was a class apart. Let's find out how he has excelled so far in T20 World Cup 2024.

1. Back-to-back wickets vs India: Mohammad Amir changed the entire complexion of India's innings when he took back-to-back wickets against Team India in the group stage fixture in New York. During the 15th over, he dismissed the set batter Rishabh Pant (41) and Ravindra Jadeja (0) in consecutive balls, which saw India stutter at 96/7. He registered 2/23 in 4 overs at an economy of 5.80.

2. Bowled an excellent death over vs USA: Amir might not have brought the best out of himself in the Super Over against the co-hosts but he did ruffled the batters' feathers in the penultimate over. When USA required 21 off 12 balls, Amir conceded only 6 runs, which gave Pakistan a clear shot at winning the game. However, Haris Rauf failed to contain runs as the USA managed to squeeze out for a tie. USA beat Pakistan in the Super Over.

3. Man-of-the-match vs Canada: Pakistan finally opened their account in T20 World Cup 2024 with a seven-wicket win over Canada in New York. The 32-year-old brought his A-game by delivering a match-winning bowling spell. Having bowled his full quota of four overs, he conceded only 13 runs and took two wickets at an economy of 3.20.
