India captains Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur were formally conferred the Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, becoming the latest cricketers to receive India's fourth-highest civilian honour.

The duo were among the awardees announced on the eve of Republic Day earlier this year and officially received the honour on June 23.

Their inclusion takes the number of Indian cricketers to have received the Padma Shri to 17, placing them alongside some of the biggest names in the sport, including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Mithali Raj and Virat Kohli.

Rohit was recognised for a career that has seen him become one of India's most successful captains and batters, including leading the country to the 2024 T20 World Cup title. Harmanpreet, meanwhile, became the first Indian women's captain to lift an ICC trophy after guiding India to the Women's ODI World Cup crown in 2025.

The Padma Shri is India's fourth-highest civilian award and is conferred by the Government of India for distinguished service across fields including sports, arts, science, literature and public affairs.
