Ganguly can't wait for World Cup to start
Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mar 6 (UNI) Spending a week without actual action in the middle has made Sourav Ganguly restless and the former India skipper says he can not wait for the competitive game in the World Cup to start .
''It is pretty long before the first game, especially in conditions which are similar to our country,'' Ganguly told reporters after a training session on the eve of India's first warm-up match against the netherlands.
''The sooner we start the tournament the better,'' he said.
India, who reached the Caribbean on March 1, play their first preliminary round match on March 17 against Bangladesh in Trinidad but by then they would have spent 17 days training and playing two warm-up games -- against the Netherlands and the West Indies on Friday -- before Sunday's opening ceremony in Trelawny.
Ganguly, who led India to the World Cup final in South Africa in 2003, said the team was taking the two practice matches seriously.
''It will be a good workout before the Cup starts. We want to play every game as it comes and try to win,'' he said.
''Momentum is the key to lift the Cup and it will come only if you keep on winning.'' India are placed in Group B of the preliminary league with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bermuda with the top two qualifying for the Super Eight round.
Ganguly alos urged his team-mates to remain focused, saying, ''It is the World Cup so everyone must prepare well.'' UNI
