Ganguly's chance to redeem himself at the Eden

Kolkata, Nov 30 (UNI) This could be the last chance for the 'Prince of Kolkata' to redeem himself at his home ground, the Eden Gardens.

With just 292 runs from 12 innings at an average of 24.33, and not more than just a single half-century to his credit, Sourav Ganguly's record at the Eden is not very inspiring and more so considering that he is a local boy.

Adding to his wounds, the fact that his last two scores here were a pair of forgettable 12, against the same opponents (Pakistan) in March 2005, you know what the odds are.

Despite this obvious lack of run fest from the willow of Sourav at the majestic coliseum, Indian Test skipper Anil Kumble's support is with him.

''I don't think it's a good idea to judge a player by his performance at a particular ground and then say he is unsuccessful.

Sourav is a very successful player,'' Kumble said.

''Take the Ferozeshah Kotla match. He was very successful with the bat and ball. Here too, Sourav will definitely get a bowl. We all expect him to play a big role every time he gets out in the middle,'' he added.

The Bengal Tiger, a veteran of 97 Tests, howeve, did shine in the Delhi Test. But as he waits for his chance to walk out into the middle, he will know that it could be his last chance to redeem himself on his home soil.

Incidentally, his best at the Eden Gardens is just 65. But Sourav knows he is worth much more and will surely be bucking up for himself, for he is a fighter to the core and a man with maximum phoenix.

There have been numerous times when Sourav has been considered finished and left out in the cold, but he has worked his way back.

This could be just the occasion and the time to prove that records do not matter nor does venues.
