Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can play 2027 World Cup if they stary fit: Gautam Gambhir

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has given a massive update regarding the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, dismissing any premeditated timeline of their careers.

The duo are set to play in 50-over format and Test cricket and Gambhir has said if they can keep their fitness, the veterans can be a possibility in the 2027 ICC World Cup as well.

In a press conference on Monday, Gambhir was asked about the longevity of Rohit and Virat's career. And the India coach confirmed his support behind the duo.

"I think they've shown what they can deliver in the big stage, whether it was the T20 World Cup or 50-over World Cup. One thing I can be very clear of, both those guys have a lot of cricket left in them. And more importantly with Champions Trophy and a big tour of Australia coming up, there won't be any shortage of motivation. If they can keep their fitness, the 2027 World Cup as well," Gambhir said.

The former player also stressed the matter that the retirement decision is solely dependent on a player and asserted his full faith in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, stating that any team would be stoked to have them in the lineup.

"This is a very personal decision [retirement]. I can't say how much cricket is left to them. Ultimately it is up to the players, how much they can contribute to the team's success. But looking what what Virat and Rohit can deliver, they still have a lot of cricket. They're still World Class players and any team would want to have both of them for as long as possible," he added.

Both Kohli and Rohit retired from T20 cricket after India's victorious T20 World Cup campaign. The latter is set to captain the Indian team in the Sri Lanka ODIs as well. In the T20 format, Suryakumar Yadav has replaced Rohit as captain.
