Following India's 1-3 series loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and their elimination from the World Test Championship final, head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the burning question.
He spoke about the future of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Speaking at the press conference after the fifth Test in Sydney, Gambhir refrained from making definitive statements about the veterans' future.

"I can't comment on the future of any players. It is up to them. They have the hunger and commitment-hopefully, they can do everything they can to take Indian cricket forward," Gambhir stated.
Both players endured a dismal series. Rohit Sharma, who missed the final Test citing poor form, managed just 31 runs in three matches. Kohli, despite a century in Perth, scored only 190 runs in the series, falling victim to slips multiple times.
Gambhir emphasized the importance of maintaining fairness within the team, regardless of seniority. "To keep the dressing room happy, I have to be honest and fair to everyone," he remarked, hinting at potential changes.
Rohit Sharma addressed his future in an interview with Star Sports, denying retirement rumors and reaffirming his commitment to Indian cricket. Gambhir supported Rohit's decision to step back for the final Test.
He stated, "A lot has been said, but the team and country must always come first. Rohit exemplified this by putting accountability above personal goals." India's next Test series against England is looming.
Now selectors face a critical decision regarding the inclusion of Rohit and Kohli. Gambhir also noted the team's reliance on Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed 32 wickets in the series but missed crucial moments in Sydney due to injury.
Despite the loss, Gambhir lauded the efforts of young players like Mohammed Siraj and Yashasvi Jaiswal. "From an attitude point of view, Mohammed Siraj was outstanding. He ran in every ball, even when not 100% fit. That's the kind of spirit we need," he said.
