Gautam Gambhir Interviewed By CAC Via Zoom Call, To Be Soon Named India Head Coach

New Delhi, Jun 18: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was interviewed by the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Tuesday (June 18) for the position of head coach of the national team. The interview, conducted over a Zoom call, saw Gambhir and CAC chairman Ashok Malhotra participating virtually.

"Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. One round of discussions happened today. There is another round expected tomorrow," a BCCI source told PTI. Gambhir is currently the only candidate under consideration, and his appointment is expected to be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

Details of Gambhir's interaction with CAC members Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik, who are based in Mumbai, were not immediately available. The discussions are believed to have focused on Gambhir's roadmap for the next three years, which includes three ICC tournaments across different formats.

An Apex Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, where Secretary Jay Shah is expected to update members on the coach selection process before making the final announcement. The CAC is also conducting interviews for the North Zone selector's position.

Recently, Gambhir guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL trophy as the team's mentor. Current India coach Rahul Dravid will step down after the T20 World Cup campaign in the Americas. The Indian team, currently in Barbados for the Super 8 matches, will face Afghanistan on June 20, after remaining unbeaten in the group stage.
