Gautam Gambhir Is A Shameless Man - Congress Leader Supriya Shrinate On Ex Cricketer's Middle Finger Gesture

By MyKhel Staff

Former India cricketer and BJP's Member of the Parliament Gautam Gambhir has earned a lot of flak for his reaction towards a section of the crowd during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

A video circulated on social media showing Gambhir make the obscene gesture at the crowd during India's high-octane tournament opener against their arch-rivals Pakistan, which was abandoned owing to incessant rain.

In the video clip, Gambhir can be seen showing the middle finger towards the crowd. The former India opener, however, said his gesture was a riposte to "anti-India slogans" from a section of the crowd.

"When you come to watch sport don't indulge in political sloganeering. If you are shouting anti-India slogans and Kashmir slogans you can't expect me to keep quiet. Social media never gives you full picture," Gambhir told mediapersons.

While Gambhir has defended himself, the political rivals continued to criticize the BJP MP as Congress leader Supriya Shrinate took to X (formerly known as X) to give her opinion on the matter and called the former cricketer "a shameless man"Outrage over Gautam Gambhir's poor act is justified

"Being an athlete he's so frustrated on hearing other's name. A parliamentarian who does not know the conduct in public life. An extremely shameless man who made a desperate attempt to hide behind fabricated slogans against the country," Shrinate's post on X read.

With their rivaly in context, some section of the media had reported that chants of "Kohli, Kohli" were heard when Gambhir showed the middle finger towards the crowd when he was walking back to the broadcasting area from the ground in Pallekele during the rain interruption.

However, Gambhir, who is part of the commentary team for the continental tournament, made it clear that his reaction had nothing to do with chants of "Kohli, Kohli".

"Whatever is shown on social media, there is no truth to it. People show what they want to show on social media. What actually happened was there were anti-India slogans being chanted. There were slogans about Kashmir also. So there will obviously be a reaction, one way or the other or laugh at it."
