India's Test series against ended in a 2-2 draw, with India showing significant resilience and fighting spirit, particularly in the dramatic final Test win at The Oval, where they defended a challenging target of 374 runs to secure the tie.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised the entire team for their collective effort, singling out none but highlighting Mohammed Siraj's standout bowling as crucial in the final Test victory. This win was seen as a turning point amid previous setbacks in Gambhir's coaching tenure.

Since taking over the helm last year, Gambhir has been a subject of stern scrutiny. Despite his success in the white ball format, where India won the Champions Trophy, Gambhir has been judged for the lack of results in Test cricket. After a 0-3 defeat in New Zealand and then subsequent defeat at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the England series was crucial for him. Although the heroics at Oval may have given him a breather, eyes are still firm on the India head coach.
Amid this, reports of the removal of Morne Morkel and Ryan Ten Doeschate as Gambhir's assistants post Asia Cup is another notion which may give an idea of Gambhir's current status at the helm. While the team showed grit and determination, experts and former players criticized several tactical decisions during the series. Gambhir was often questioned for his team selections.
Despite the recent criticism, former India player Venkatapathy Raju believes the India head coach must remain at the helm if the team is happy with him. While speaking with MyKhel in an exclusive chat, Raju says Gambhir's role can't be perceived from the outside.
"We don't know what his way of coaching is. We can't see everything from the outside. If the team is happy, we all should be happy. At the end of the day, it's the team that matters, not us who give opinions. Ultimately, if the boys have faith in him, we should move forward with that."
Although many voices have had an array of opinions, the Indian team under Shubman Gill seems a tightly knitted unit, which has a close bonding with their professor Gautam Gambhir.
