Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday slammed a news organisation for quoting him wrongly in one of their articles following Glenn Maxwell's double hundred against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
In the match Maxwell slammed a six to complete his double hundred and hand Australia a thrilling three-wicket win which helped them qualify for the semi-finals. Australia were seven down for 91 at one stage in the match.

The news portal's article quoted Gambhir saying, “Virat Kohli would have taken singles on 195 if he had been there. But Glenn Maxwell chose to hit six, that's what makes him different."
"What bullsh*t! When I say something I say it openly. To all the so called verified handles - cite source or apologise!" Gambhir wrote on social media platform X.
Notably, a few days ago on Sunday when Virat Kohli slammed his record-equalling 49th ODI hundred against South Africa at Eden Garden in Kolkata, Gambhir has praised the genius batter but pointed that he slowed down while approaching the three-figure score.
“It was important for Kohli to bat deep and I feel it was at the end, just the last 5-6 overs where he slowed down a bit, maybe because he was nearing a century. But I believe there were already enough runs on the board. It could have hurt India if they were batting on a good pitch,” Gambhir told Sportskeeda.
News 18 was quick to take note of Gambhir's post on X, and they soon rolled out an apology to the World Cup-winning former India opener. The article containing the misleading quote was also taken down.
The relationship between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli has always made headlines. However, the mutual respect between the two has also been seen from time to time. Gambhir had also praised Kohli for his knock on the difficult Eden Gardens surface against South Africa.
"Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer batted on a different planet today. Spin was the real deal on that pitch and both of them batted exceptionally," Gambhir had told Star Sports while talking about the innings.
