Gautam Gambhir won't survive long as India Coach, says Gambhir's teammate from 2007 T20 World Cup squad

By MyKhel Staff

Gautam Gambhir has had a magnificent start to his tenure as the India head coach. The new professor has already won the T20I series in his first assignment.

Gambhir, who took over the reins from Rahul Dravid, has already made a strong impact in the team and there are high hopes that the Indian team will reach greater heights under Gambhir's tutelage.

Gautam Gambhir Virat Kohli

But former India player Joginder Sharma feels Gambhir's tenure as India coach will be shortlived and casts doubt over Gambhir's ability to appease all parties. In a chat with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra, Joginder opened up on his thoughts.

"Gautam Gambhir team ko sambhalne wala hai lekin par mera ye manna hai ki Gautam Gambhir jyada lambe samay tak tik nahi payega (Gautam Gambhir is the one who can take care of the team, but I believe that Gautam Gambhir will not survive long)," Sharma said during the interview.

Joginder Sharma was Gambhir's teammate during India's triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in 2007. He also bowled the final over of the match and got the wicket of Mishbah-ul-Haq as India lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup. And having known Gambhir closely, the current Haryana police DSP believes the India coach can take decisions which may offend others, clearing that he is not taking about Virat Kohli.

"This is because Gautam Gambhir has his own decisions. It might happen that he has a disagreement with a player. I am not talking about Virat Kohli. Many times, Gautam Gambhir's decisions are such that others do not like them," he added.

Gambhir does have an excellent record as a coach so far. Under his mentorship, the Lucknow Super Giants got to the playoffs twice. And then Kolkata Knight Riders won their 3rd IPL title under Gambhir's mentorship in his solitary season this year.

Joginder also heaped praises on Gambhir's work ethic and hailed him for his honesty and passion towards his job.

"Gautam Gambhir is straightforward. He is not going to go to someone and flatter one. We are the ones who give him credit. He works from the bottom of his heart, he works with dignity and honesty," Joginder further added.
