Gilchrist's record breaking ball to go on public display

Sydney, Dec 4 (UNI) Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland today said the ball which Adam Gilchrist hit to record his 100th six in Test cricket will soon be displayed in public.

''I do understand that the person who claims to have the ball is keen now to donate that back on the basis that it will go on public display for people to see and recognise the marvellous achievement of 100 sixes in Test cricket,'' Sutherland said.

Gilchrist, who hit the ball out of the ground with the historic shot on November 17, has since been appealing, along with the CA, for it to be returned.

Sutherland said the CA had held talks with the man who had the ball and he had indicated he was willing to return it.

''The latest I've heard this morning is that we're hopeful it will be on public display before the end of the summer,'' he said.

''I've just heard the news this morning that it looks like it's going to be handed back at some stage and I think that's good news for everyone.'' It was not yet decided where the ball would be displayed.
