Glenn Maxwell Powers Washington Freedom With Record-Breaking Ton In MLC, Achieves Unique T20 Milestone

Glenn Maxwell showcased his T20 mastery once again with a blistering century for Washington Freedom against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the Major League Cricket. The dynamic Australian batter lit up the contest with his eighth T20 hundred, propelling his side to a strong total despite a rocky middle phase.

Initially, Maxwell struggled to get going, scoring just 11 runs off his first 15 balls. But what followed was pure carnage. He exploded in trademark fashion, reaching three figures in only 48 balls - a knock laced with 13 towering sixes and a couple of boundaries.

His ruthless acceleration helped Washington recover from 92 for 5 in the 12th over to finish at a commanding 208 for 5 in their 20 overs.

This electrifying innings also marked a significant career milestone. Maxwell surpassed 10,500 runs in T20 cricket, joining an elite club and becoming the only cricketer in history with over 10,500 runs, 170+ wickets, and multiple T20 hundreds.

While other all-rounders like Kieron Pollard and Shoaib Malik also boast over 10,000 runs and 150-plus wickets, Maxwell's achievement stands out due to his eight centuries. Pollard, with 13,599 runs and 326 wickets, and Malik, with 13,571 runs and 187 wickets, have only one T20 century each to their name. Maxwell, with his unique all-round credentials, continues to redefine the standards of the format.

The moment was made even more special with Maxwell's parents in the stands. Sharing his thoughts post-match, Maxwell said:

"Came in slightly different circumstances, needed to bat differently, started pretty slow but once I thought we needed a few more runs took my shots and it came off. We just needed to bat time at that stage. I was hoping myself and Chapman could take it deep, we could maybe target the last 5-6 overs, manipulate the field. It is pretty cool. They (his mom and dad) don't get to see me make runs very often, so it is nice to have them here."

Glenn Maxwell continues to underline why he's one of the most valuable assets in global T20 cricket - with the bat, the ball, and sheer match-winning presence.
