Global T20 Canada 2023: From Shoaib Malik to Shahid Afridi – Pakistan Players in GT20 Season 3

The Global T20 Canada (GT20) is all set to make it's return after a four-year hiatus as the six-team tournament is scheduled to be held in Brampton, Ontario from July 20 to August 6.

The six teams that will battle for the title in the third edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament are: Brampton Wolves, Surrey Jaguars, Montreal Tigers, Mississauga Panthers, Vancouver Knights and Toronto Nationals.

Each team has a mix of Canadian talents as well as overseas stars from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, West Indies, UAE, England and Bangladesh. Pakistan has a total of 14 representatives including legends like Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik.

The GT20 also sees the current stars like Mohammad Rizwan, Shahnawaz Dahani, Abdullah Shafique and Iftikhar Ahmed among others being drafted in different teams. Legends Malik and Afridi have been drafted as icon and marquee respectively.

Iftikhar also has been roped in as a marquee player, while Rizwan is the other player to be drafted in as a icon player. However, with a Test series against Sri Lanka being scheduled at the same time, most players' availablity for GT20 remains doubtful.

Toronto Nationals, which feature Afridi, boast four Pakistan players, the heaviest contingent. Mississauga Panthers and Brampton Wolves have three each, while Surrey Jaguars have two. Vancouver Knights and Montreal Tigers have one each.

There are many other Pakistan born players, who are plying their trade for UAE and Canada, but it's only 14 players that have either represented Pakistan national team are close to a call up.
