Andries Gous starred with an unbeaten fifty as Toronto Nationals went on to lift the Global T20 Canada title following an eight-wicket victory over the defending champion Montreal Tigers in the GT20 Canada 2024 final on Sunday (August 11).
After the Nationals restricted the Montreal Tigers to a modest total of 96 for 9 in the championship game, Gous played the rescue act with an unbeaten 58 after Toronto lost its two openers for just 12 runs at the CAA Centre in Brampton.

The United States wicketkeeper-batter Gous slammed eight fours in his 49-ball innings and shared an 85-run stand with South African Rassie van der Dussen, who added 30 runs off 34 balls as Toronto completed the chase with 30 balls to spare.
This was Toronto Nationals' first title win. Colin Munro's side needed to overcome Brampton Wolves in the Qualifier 2 on Saturday (August 10) to reach the title clash after rain marred the playoffs round in Brampton during the weekend.
Earlier on Saturday (August 10), Toronto Nationals rode on an all-round performance from Romario Shepherd to register a comfortable five-wicket victory against Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 2 to progress to Sunday's summit clash.
Asked to bat first on a difficult wicket, the Wolves rode an unbeaten half-century by Nick Hobson to post a challenging total of 141/8 in their 20 overs. The Australian scored 51 runs off 34 deliveries with five boundaries and two sixes studding his defiant innings.
In reply, openers Unmukt Chand and Colin Munro put together an opening partnership of 57 runs off 33 deliveries to lay the foundation of Toronto's victory.
Earlier, the eliminator match of GT20 Canada Season 4 between the Mississauga Bangla Tigers and the Toronto Nationals was declared a forfeit by the former after the match was delayed due to rain.
After repeated inspections, the umpires along with the match referee decided, going by the tournament regulations, that a super over would be played between the two teams at 7:30 pm Local Time with the toss to be held at 7:10 pm Local Time.
At the time of the toss, the Toronto Nationals captain was present, but the Bangla Tigers team refused to appear. The match referee explained the plausible consequences of the said action to the captain and thereafter the umpire subsequently called off the match.
Based on the report of the match referee, the Tournament Technical Committee unanimously decided to award the match to the Toronto Nationals who advanced to play the Brampton Wolves in the second qualifier.
