Mumbai, Jan 29: In a shocking revelation, Sachin Tendulkar, who is known as god of cricket, has been named as water bill defaulter. Sachin along with Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi are among the many celebrities who have not payed water bill so far.

According to media reports, the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to recover more than Rs 1,000 crore from over 2,00,000 defaulters as on Jan 16, 2014. In a move to expose the defaulters, the state information commissioner (SIC) asked the BMC officials uploaded the list on its website.

A civic official was quoted as saying, "The list has been prepared based on information received from 24 ward offices. It has the names of all defaulters - commercial, industrial and domestic."

Speaking about the defaulters named in the list, the official also added, "During every billing cycle, we prepare a list of top 100 or 500 defaulters. Action is taken against anyone featuring in this list."

According to a report published in DNA, the SIC ordered BMC to unveil the names of the defaulters under section 4(1)(B) of Right to Information Act (RTI), 2005 after public information officer (PIO) attached to BMC's F-North ward (covering areas like Matunga, Sion) denied to share details sought by a Wadala resident, Jaiprakash Gupta.
