Grammy winner Ricky Kej unveils KPL 2015 trophy in Bengaluru

Bangalore, Aug 20: The Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2015 edition's trophy was unveiled at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium premises last evening (August 19) in the presence of Grammy Award winning music composer Ricky Kej.

KPL, a tribute to the Scion of The Mysore Royal Family and former President of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the Late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, will witness 8 teams battle it out for the coveted title from September 2.

The trophy was unveiled by PR Ashok Anand, President, KSCA, Sudhir Hasija, Chairman, Karbonn Mobiles and Ricky in the presence of the 8 Franchisees, KSCA Officials and cricketers of the League.

Speaking at the unveiling, Anand said, "We are really looking forward to the Karbonn Smart KPL IV matches due to begin in just over two weeks. As we are unveiling the trophy, there are 8 teams who are training really hard to take the prestigious trophy home."

Brijesh Patel, Secretary of KSCA, said, "This year, the League has elevated itself to the next level and we expect the contest to be even more exciting and competitive as compared to the previous editions considering that the teams are all so well matched with the talent in Karnataka being evenly spread across the teams. There are several top stars from Karnataka participating and the youngsters can learn a lot from them."

"As per the BCCI guidelines the Anti Corruption Unit will be monitering the tournament closely like in the IPL," he added.

Sudhir said, "We are extremely proud to be associated with the Karnataka Premier League as Title Sponsor for the second consecutive year."

Ricky, who has been associated with KPL since its inception and has scored the music for the KPL anthem in its inaugral edition in 2009, said, "KPL is a fantastic endeavour that encourages new talent and sportsmanship at the grassroot level. It has been fantastic to follow the KPL journey so far and see it going strong in its 4th season. Moving forward, I am sure to see numerous cricket superstars of tomorrow making their debut and honing their skills through the KPL!!! I am very proud to be associated with the KSCA's premier tournament."

"Conceptualised and designed by brothers - Dinesh Kumar and Satish Kumar of Idesign, the trophy has been created to honour the Late Srikantadatta Narashimharaja Wadiyar. It features two striking pillars reflecting the beauty and magnificence of the Royal City. Between these pillars is the presence of cricket stumps that fly into thin air in an artistic flow.

"These visual features, along with a cricket ball placed on top of the Trophy, suggest the true 'Spirit of the Game'. The motifs along with the title sponsor's logo at the pedestal of the Trophy are inspired by the Royalty and add to its majesty. This majestic Trophy weighs 3.5 kgs and is 18" in height," the organisers said.

KPL 2015 Trophy will travel across the 2 host cities - Mysuru and Hubballi with the final scheduled to take place in Mysuru on September 19, 2015 at 5 PM.

All KPL 2015 matches will be telecast live on Sony Six.
