GT Retention List for IPL 2025: Big Names Released by Gujarat Titans ft. These Two Indian Pacers

GT Retention List for IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans have finalised a core group of retained players for IPL 2025, aiming to preserve a strong foundation for the upcoming season. The franchise has retained players such as Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan, and Rashid Khan.

The GT Retention List also includes uncapped players such as Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, with the team banking their trust on the pair’s potential for the upcoming season. However, some notable players, including senior pacers like Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav, were released, signalling an emphasis on reworking the bowling lineup ahead of the IPL auction.

GT Retention List for IPL 2025

Mohammad Shami

Mohammed Shami’s exit from Gujarat Titans is particularly noteworthy. Signed in 2022, Shami became GT’s lead pacer, providing early breakthroughs with the new ball and finishing overs with his precision at the death.

In the 2023 season, he took an impressive 28 wickets in 17 matches, with an economy rate of 8.03 and a best of 4/11 against Delhi Capitals, solidifying his reputation as one of the top fast bowlers in IPL. His ability to swing the ball both ways made him a consistent threat to the opposition’s top order.

However, Shami missed last season’s campaign with injury issues, which have also hampered his national team duties. Although recent fitness challenges have kept Shami off the field, his reputation and IPL track record make him a prime target for teams in need of a seasoned, reliable pacer.

Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav joined GT in 2024 for a career-record ₹5.80 crore, adding depth to the bowling unit with his ability to swing the ball at pace. Despite being known for his effectiveness in the powerplay, Umesh played just seven matches, taking eight wickets with an average of 26.25 and an economy rate of 10.00.

A mixture of poor form on his part and the team led to him being axed for a number of matches last season. Despite his release before the mega auction, Umesh’s skills remain highly valued in the IPL, and teams looking for an explosive powerplay option will likely eye him in the auction.

The release of Shami and Umesh Yadav opens up cap space for GT and allows them to recalibrate their squad dynamics. Both players, with their considerable IPL experience and unique bowling skills, are expected to attract significant attention in the 2025 auction.
