GT Retention List for IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans have announced their retention and release list for IPL 2025, with a strong focus on maintaining a consistent core group.
Retaining key players such as Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan, Gujarat is looking to sustain their competitive edge with a well-balanced blend of youth and experience.

However, several overseas players, despite prior contributions, were released, likely to make room for strategic new additions. Here’s a breakdown of the overseas players released by GT:
David Miller’s contributions in the IPL were significant, particularly in 2022 when he scored an impressive 481 runs with a high average of 68.71. Though he continued his role as a middle-order powerhouse in 2023 and 2024, injuries disrupted his performance this season, limiting him to just nine matches with 210 runs at an average of 35. With an overall strike rate of around 150 for GT, Miller’s ability to finish games was still evident, but GT’s strategy appears to focus on bringing in fresh overseas talent.
Azmatullah Omarzai played a limited role in Gujarat Titan’s 2024 campaign, taking four wickets in seven games with a modest economy rate of 8.86. Known for his all-round potential, Omarzai’s stats with the bat were also modest, as he focused more on a supporting role. His release could suggest the Titan’s aim to prioritise more experienced options or players who can deliver consistent performances under pressure.
After sustaining an injury, Kane Williamson managed only two appearances for Gujarat Titans, accumulating 27 runs at a strike rate of 100. With recurring fitness concerns, Williamson’s retention posed a risk, despite his experience. GT’s decision to release him may also stem from the need for a more versatile top-order player with consistent availability.
Joshua Little showed promise by claiming four wickets in his sole appearance of the season. The left-arm pacer, though talented, struggled to secure a regular spot in the Titan’s playing XI. With Little’s limited exposure this season, GT may look to overseas pacers who fit more seamlessly into their starting lineup and offer greater flexibility.
Left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson also had limited appearances, featuring in five matches with an economy rate of 9.44. Despite his brief contributions, his inability to maintain a regular spot likely led Gujarat Titans to consider alternatives that bring more consistent impact.
Noor Ahmad’s leg-spin prowess yielded 16 wickets over two seasons with Gujarat Titans, but his economy rate in 2024 crept up to 8.33. While talented, GT likely seeks a more experienced spin option to pair with Rashid Khan, leading to Noor’s release.
Veteran Matthew Wade’s absence from GT’s 2024 playing XI and his unremarkable IPL statistics resulted in his release. With a career average of just over 13, Wade struggled to establish himself, making it unlikely for the Titans to retain him with other batting options in focus.
