GT Retention List for IPL 2025 Retention: Uncapped Players Released by Gujarat Titans Despite Playing Well
GT Retention List for IPL 2025: As the Gujarat Titans make preparations for IPL 2025, they have finalised their retention list, retaining key players like Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia.
This decision to include these players in the GT retention list is to maintain a strong foundation while managing budget constraints, leaving out some valuable uncapped players who showed promise in previous seasons.

Among these released players, Mohit Sharma and Manav Suthar stand out. Despite their notable performances, both will not be part of the Titan’s squad in 2025, as the team seeks to optimise their line-up and purse for the upcoming season.
#2 Mohit Sharma
Mohit Sharma’s IPL journey with Gujarat Titans was impressive, particularly in the 2023 season, where he became an integral part of their bowling attack. Playing 14 matches that year, Sharma took 27 wickets with a stellar economy rate of 8.17 and a strike rate under 10, with his best bowling figure of 5/10.
This made him one of GT’s leading bowlers that season, especially in crunch moments. Although his performance dipped in IPL 2024, where he managed 13 wickets in 12 games with an economy of 10.90, Sharma's experience and ability to execute yorkers under pressure added depth to the bowling arsenal of Gujarat Titans.
Despite these contributions, the Titan’s decision to release Sharma likely comes from his age and the potential to invest in younger bowlers who can grow with the team. Even though he has appeared in eight T20I matches for India, his last appearance came in 2015, which means that he would have counted as an uncapped player if the Titans had opted to retain him.
With Sharma's IPL career tally standing at 132 wickets across 112 matches, his experience makes him a valuable asset for other teams, particularly those needing a reliable death-over bowler.
#1 Manav Suthar
Manav Suthar’s release from Gujarat Titans is perhaps more surprising, given his consistent performances in domestic cricket, despite limited IPL opportunities. Playing just one match in IPL 2024, Suthar had minimal impact on the tournament.
However, his record in domestic cricket, especially in the Duleep Trophy, shows his potential. Suthar’s 7/49 in one innings for India C in the Duleep Trophy set a record for the best figures by a debutant in the tournament. In his recent outings, Suthar has demonstrated versatility and control, taking 5/133 against Vidarbha and 8/67 in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) league, making him a promising candidate for future opportunities.
By releasing Suthar, Gujarat Titans misses out on an emerging left-arm spinner who has been flagged by domestic coaches as a future star. His performances indicate readiness for more significant roles, suggesting he could become a sought-after option in the auction.
