GT vs CSK, IPL 2024 Match 59: Gujarat Titans (GT) kept themselves alive in the IPL 2024 playoffs race with a 35-run win over five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 10.

After being asked to bat first, Gujarat posted 231/3 courtesy hundreds from Sai Sudharsan (103) and Shubman Gill (104). The duo partnered for a record 210 runs. Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets for CSK. Shahrukh Khan got run out for two off three, while David Miller remained unbeaten on 16 off 11.

In reply, CSK lost three wickets in the first three overs, before a century partnership between Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34), and Moeen Ali (56 off 36). Both the players were removed by Mohit Sharma (3/31). Shivam Dube (21 off 13) was Mohit's third wicket in the match.

Rashid Khan (2/38) dismissed Ravindra Jadeja (18) and MItchell Santner (0). MS Dhoni scored 26 runs off 11 balls in his cameo, but Chennai fell 35 runs short to face their sixth defeat of the season.

Despite the defeat CSK retained their fourth spot. Like CSK, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants also have 12 points from 12 matches.

Rashid Khan (GT Spinner): "You love to watch those two (Gill and Sudharsan), really enjoyed the way they played, happy to be on the winning side though. Happy to get a couple of wickets, my body is feeling better. Had a back issue, it's good and it's better now, very soon I will be all fit. I have bowled against him (Dhoni), when he comes to play it's a different feeling, it gives us a good energy, happy to play with him."

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): Our fielding let us down, we gave away 10-15 runs extra I think, execution wise we were good, but they played some really good shots. You can't control batters when they playing so well and going good. It's real quick, we got to fly quick and we have a tough game in Chennai, so we got to turn up well there as well.

Shubman Gill (GT captain and Man of the Match): "Yeah just a cramp, nothing else (reason for being off the field). When you've got 100k people supporting you, becomes easier. Just the freeness of it. When we were batting out there, we didn't have any targets in mind. Were just maximising the opportunities in front of us. We have a good camaraderie between us. Even last year we batted a lot together.

"Lot of fun batting with him. In terms of numbers, definitely it is (best opening partnership for GT). Mohit bhai has done this for us the last couple of years. Even last year, his bowling was a revelation. Even this year, two three bad games can happen to anyone. At one point we thought 250 was there for the taking. In the last 2-3 overs they bowled well also. Just had a feeling we were 10-15 short - not in terms of the match but in terms of the NRR going forward."
