GT vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings wrapped up their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding 83-run win over Gujarat Titans, playing the role of spoilers in emphatic fashion. It was a bittersweet finish for MS Dhoni's men, as they finally delivered a clinical all-round performance-albeit too late to make a difference in the standings.
Despite finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time in franchise history, the match offered them glimpses of promise from their younger talent, a positive they'll hope to build on in future seasons.

For Gujarat Titans, however, this was a costly defeat. A win would have secured a spot in the top two, but their flat performance has now left them waiting nervously on other results, particularly the RCB vs LSG fixture-provided the PBKS vs MI match isn't washed out. To make matters worse, they now carry back-to-back losses into the crucial final phase of the tournament, and are also likely to be without Jos Buttler for the playoffs, adding to their concerns.
The match began with CSK choosing to bat first after winning the toss. Youngster Ayush Mhatre stole the show early, smashing 34 runs off just 17 deliveries-including a brutal 28-run over off Arshad Khan. Openers Urvil Patel and Devon Conway kept the momentum going, with Conway anchoring the innings with a composed half-century.
Though GT struck back with the wickets of Dube and Conway in quick succession, Dewald Brevis reignited the innings with a blistering 57, including the second-fastest half-century in CSK's history. The Super Kings eventually finished at a daunting 230/5. Prasidh Krishna stood out with the ball for Gujarat, returning excellent figures of 2/22 in four overs, while the rest of the attack leaked runs freely.
Gujarat's chase never quite took off. By the fifth over, they had slumped to 30/3, having lost captain Shubman Gill, Buttler, and Rutherford. Although Shahrukh Khan and Sai Sudharsan stitched together a brief resistance with a 50-plus stand, Jadeja's double strike in the 11th over broke their backs.
With the match firmly in CSK's grasp, part-time bowlers were given a run alongside overseas pacers Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana. Gujarat were eventually bundled out for 147, with Noor and rookie Manan Kamboj claiming three wickets each.
Despite the dominant win, CSK end the season at the foot of the table-a rare sight for a team of their pedigree. Gujarat, meanwhile, must now rely on other outcomes to cling on to a top-two finish, hoping their season doesn't unravel further at this crucial juncture.
