Bottom-placed Delhi Capitals pulled off a staggering victory over defending Champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday (May 2).

Defending just 130 runs, the Capitals managed to stifle and restrict the Titans to just 125 and won the match by 5 runs.

Batting first, DC had a disastrous start as they were reeling at 23/5 in 5 overs. Aman Hakim Khan (51 off 44) and Axar Patel (27 off 30) with a late Ripal Patel flurry took them to a respectable total. Mohammed Shami rattled the DC top order as the pacer picked up 4 wickets.

Chasing 131 runs, it was not the cakewalk as it was supposed to be. The Titans were 32/4 at one stage as DC were all over them. GT captain Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar built a sturdy partnership to get them back in the match. Rahul Tewatia (20 off 7) played a terrific cameo but they fell short of 5 runs, managing 125/6 at the end of their full quota of overs.

Hardik Pandya (GT Captain): "We would have taken 130 on any given day. We lost a couple of wickets and in the end, couldn't capitalize. Rahul took us close and I tried. We couldn't get the rhythm. Full marks to their bowlers and full ownership on my side for not finishing the game."

(On the Wicket) "Wicket was good enough. It was a tad slower, but they bowled really well. We lost a couple of wickets and couldn't get the rhythm. Intent was there but it's difficult when you keep losing wickets."

(On Shami) "I feel sorry for him. If you bowl like that and batter's disappointed. I think it was Mohammed Shami who got the ball talking. We are disappointed and I couldn't take the team home. We have to move on and rectify our mistakes. We are still top of the table and we have to keep playing well."

"I told them to swing the ball and take early wickets. Khaleel and Ishant did extremely well, Ishant for holding the nerves at the end. Tewatia hits the ball at the end, but Ishant was able to execute his plans."

Mohammed Shami (Player of the Match): "I just try to keep trying bowl in a good line and length irrespective of the colour of the ball. Disappointed with the loss as we should have chased it.

"I believe had we played well in the power play, we could have won it. We needed one partnership, but there are many matches still to play."

101 - Wriddhiman Saha of Gujarat Titans became the 3rd wicketkeeper in IPL history to be involved in 100+ dismissals.

David Warner has now become the 3rd highest run scorer for Delhi Capitals. He has scored 2175 runs, only Shreyas Iyer (2375) and Rishabh Pant (2838) are ahead of him.
