GT vs DC IPL 2025: Sai Kishore Joins Elite List as Star Spinner Achieves Unique Feat

GT vs DC: In a rare tactical move during the IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th April, left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore was introduced into the attack in the 20th over of the first innings-a highly unusual occurrence in T20 cricket.

The move turned out to be a smart one as Sai Kishore struck immediately, joining an exclusive club of spinners brought on at the death in an innings.

He became just the third spinner in IPL history to be introduced in the final over of the first innings. The only other instances before this were:

Sanath Jayasuriya (MI) vs Rajasthan Royals, Durban, 2009 - 2/3

Rohit Sharma (Deccan Chargers) vs Mumbai Indians, Mumbai DYP, 2010 - 0/14

R Sai Kishore (GT) vs Delhi Capitals, Ahmedabad, 2025 - 1/9

In Sai Kishore's case, the decision proved effective. He removed Ashutosh Sharma off the penultimate delivery, finishing with figures of 1/9 in a high-scoring innings. Notably, Rohit Sharma's instance in 2010 came under unusual circumstances as he was asked to bowl after Jaskaran Singh delivered two consecutive waist-high no-balls. That over ended up conceding 20 runs.

Delhi Capitals ended their innings at 203/8, thanks to key contributions from Abishek Porel (18 off 9), Karun Nair (31 off 18), Rahul (28 off 14), and Axar Patel (39 off 32). Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the Gujarat Titans bowlers with 4/41, while Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan picked one each. Ishant Sharma also chipped in with a wicket before leaving the field due to dehydration.

With the first three matches at this venue all won by teams batting first, Gujarat Titans face a stiff challenge. However, the fact that this is the first afternoon game could mean conditions ease out slightly for the chasing side as the game progresses.
