GT vs DC, IPL 2025: Will Faf Du Plessis Return to Delhi Capitals Playing 11 Against Gujarat Titans?

By MyKhel Staff

Delhi Capitals (DC) will be hopeful of the return to fitness of South African batter Faf Du Plessis heading into their IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (April 19).

Du Plessis has missed the last three games and overall four matches for DC so far this season with an undisclosed injury, which the player himself has revealed was aggravated after playing in one of the fixtures.

The 40-year-old opening batter, who has scored 83 runs including a fifty in his three outings this season, had said that playing in the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after missing the game versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may have not been the right decision.

While Du Plessis provided the worrying update ahead of the Mumbai Indians clash, the only game DC has lost so far this season, the Capitals skipper Axar Patel gave some positive news regarding the veteran batter's fitness after the Super Over win against Rajasthan Royals earlier in the week.

According to Axar's statement, Du Plessis was expected to be fit after three games, meaning he could be available for their next match after missing three games so far - vs CSK, MI and RR.

The DC captain was rather hopeful than confident to have the Protea back for the clash against GT. The DC head coach Hemang Badani also did not give much away regarding his availability in the pre-match presser. So, will Du Plessis feature in today's IPL 2025 match? Here is the latest Faf Du Plessis injury update:

Faf Du Plessis fitness update: Du Plessis was pictured having a hit out at the nets on the eve of the GT vs DC match in Ahmedabad. But DC head coach did not confirm the South African's availability for the match, saying he did not want to give away anything about the team combination.

Asked about an update on Du Plessis' availability for the game, Badani said, "I genuinely cannot give you anything with regards to team mix up, whether he is ready or not, we will have to wait and see tomorrow."

DC may be keen to have Du Plessis back to fix the worrying opener's slot after poor form from Jake Fraser-McGurk but the head coach put his weight behind the young Australian batter.

"He is someone who gives us massive starts and someone who we believe is a match winner. Yes, the numbers this year haven't been his best compared to last year but we as a side believe that he is someone who is likely to be a player who can always come good for us at any given time," he said, as quoted from a release by DC.

"It also gives us the freedom to keep having him in the side because of our position at the moment with five wins in six games, it just gives us the cushion to have someone like him in the XI and if he fires it's happy days for us," he added.
