GT vs MI, IPL 2025: Too Slow - After Serving Ban, Hardik Pandya is Reprimanded Again For Same Offence!

By MyKhel Staff

On his comeback match after serving a one-match ban, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been reprimanded again following his team's 36-run loss to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (March 29).

In fact, Hardik faces punishment for the same offence he served a one-match ban in MI's IPL 2025 season opener. The 31-year-old missed the clash against Chennai Super Kings as he served a ban which was carried forward from last season for repeated offence of slow-over rate.

In Hardik's absence, star batter and current Team India T20I skipper Surykumar Yadav stepped in as stand in captain during Mumbai Indians' 4-wicket loss to CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last weekend.

Now, in his first match back as captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik has once against been punished for slow over rate. However, he does not face a ban this time as the rule has been tweaked starting this season as per earlier reports.

According to an official statement on the IPL website, Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 12 Lakh for slow over rate in Mumbai Indians' second successive defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

"Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 9 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad," IPL statement read.

"As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs."

Mumbai Indians were already penalised as they were allowed just four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the final over the Gujarat Titans' batting innings. Now, the skipper has been fined.

As mentioned earlier, captains will no longer face a ban from this season, according to reports. The report from PTI stated that captains wouldn't be banned for over-rate offences. Instead, they will be handed demerit points.

The decision was taken at the captains' meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai earlier this month. Earlier, a captain faced a one-match suspension and a fine of Rs 30 lakhs for a third offence of slow over-rate.

"A Level 1 offence will lead to deduction of 25 to 75 percent match fees with demerit points which will be calculated for next three years. Level 2 offence if serious will result in four demerit points," a BCCI source said, as quoted by PTI.

"For every four demerit points accumulated, the match referee can impose a penalty, either in the form of a 100 percent fine or additional demerit points. These demerit points could convert into a match ban in the future but for slow overrate there won't be a match ban," the BCCI source added.
