Shashank Singh's heroics overshadows Shubman Gill's masterclass as Punjab Kings pull off a huge run chase to beat Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets in match 17 of IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (April 4).
Shashank, who was once claimed a mistake in identity during the auction, turned out to be the match-winner for PBKS with an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls to guide his team to the second win of the season.

Earlier, put into bat Gill had scored an unbeaten 89 off 48 to take GT to 199. But in response PBKS, who were at a spot of bother on 70/4 when Shashank walked into bat, pulled off a last over thriller.
Shashank shared a 22-ball 43 runs stand with Ashutosh Sharma (31 off 17) to seal the match in the final over. Now, let's take a look at the award winners and post match reaction with stats from GT vs PBKS:
Losing captain of GT, Gill said dropped catches cost them the match: "Couple of catches went down. Never easy on a wicket like this when you drop catches. Difficult to defend runs in these conditions. The new ball was doing something. There are always areas to improve."
On defending 200, Gill added: "I think 200 was good enough. We were in the game till the 15th over. When you drop catches, you will be in trouble. The way Nalkande bowled in the last match, we went to him for the last over."
On relativley unknown talents Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma's knocks, Gill said: "This is IPL for you - people who you have not seen will come and win games."
Meanwhile, one of the heroes for PBKS, Ashutosh said: "I would like to thank Punjab Kings for believing in me. Happy that our team has won. Personal performance happens, but main thing is for the team to win."
On Shikhar and Sanjay Bangar's backing, Ashutosh added: "Shikhar paaji believed in me so much. I was normal and kept believing that I can do it. To Sanjay sir I will thank him so much and he believed in me. He told me a lot of good things.
"I was normal and believed that I can do it because I have won games for my home team. Back home I was training with Amay Khurasiya sir. He told me when you get a chance you will become a hero."
Winning captain, Dhawan of PBKS, said: "It was an amazing game, very very close, I'm glad the boys did the job. The plan was to give a good start but I got out unfortunately. But we were around 60 runs at the end of the powerplay, we kept building partnerships and Shashank came in and played really well."
On Shashank and Ashutosh, Dhawan added: "The way Shashank came in and hit those sixes, it was brilliant, the way he hit the balls, it looked effortless. He is playing in the IPL after a long time and he played so well. I will also mention about Ashutosh, he came in and played a good knock under pressure."
Player of the match, Shashank said: "Still trying to sink in, I vision these things but turning it into reality feels great. I play cricketing shots, I bat at No. 7 but today I batted at No. 5."
On the wicket and facing top bowlers, Shashank added: "The bounce was very good, 200 scored by both teams so the wicket was fantastic. They are the legends of cricket, I don't see the names, I react to the bowler and play my shots accordingly."
On his previous stints and current chance, Shashank said: "Couldn't get much matches before, last to last year for SRH but the managemen, the coaching staff has really backed me and I was very confident."
