Gill is Back - A couple of former Indian cricketers reacted after Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill scored his first fifty of the season during IPL 2024 Match 17 against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (April 4).
Gill, who had made scores of 31, 8 and 36 since the start of 2024, finally arrived to the party as the new skipper smashed 4 sixes and 6 fours for an unbeaten 89 off 48 balls to power GT to 199/4 in their allotted 20 overs against PBKS.

The 24-year-old had won the Orange Cap last season after scoring 890 runs in 17 innings, including 3 centuries and 4 fifties. There were doubts that captaincy may have added pressure on him, but Gill proved the doubters wrong with his stylish knock.
This was also his sixth fifty against the Punjab-based side in IPL since making his debut in the lucrative league back in 2018. The right-handed batter got going with a six straight over the bowler's head in the very first over.
Following the knock, two former stars reacted, saying the batter is back to his best, starting with former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who took to social media to share his reaction and asked if PBKS can chase down 200.
"Gill is back! So am I happy well played Shubman Gill. Does Punjab Kings have the firepower to chase this score on a big ground?" Yuvraj posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Irfan Pathan, another former Indian all-rounder-turned commentator, also acknowledged Gill's knock and compared him to star India batter Virat Kohli for his selection of shots.
"Shubman Gill looks so much in control playing t20 cricket. Very much like Virat. Tries to play correct cricket not so much power but pure timing," Pathan said on X.
His teammate Kane Williamson, who played his first match for GT since going off injured in the first game of last season, was full of praise for the young skipper.
"He has just started, a great cricket brain, what a gifted player, leads by example, he will keep growing with experience," Williamson, who scored 26 off 22, said during the innings break.
