GT vs PBKS: When the chips were down, uncapped Indian star Shashank Singh rose to the occasion to script one of the most memorable wins for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL.
Punjab were five down for 111 in 12.2 overs against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (April 4), and the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza were back in the hut. When all looked lost, the unthinkable happened and Punjab Kings managed to chase down the 200-run target with a ball to spare.

Punjab fans looked at Jitesh Sharma with hopeful eyes, but it was Shashank Singh who anchored the chase to perfection. The India wicketkeeper-batter departed for 16 off 8, but Shashank stayed in the middle till the very end to score 61 off just 29 balls. The innings consisted of six fours and four sixes.
Umesh Yadav, Noor Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Dasrhan Nalkande - all were comprehensively hammered by the right-hand batter. The knock has got the attention of one and all towards Shashank Singh. Let's find out.
Shashank Singh is a 32-year-old batting all-rounder. He made his domestic debut for Mumbai but moved to Puducherry due to lack of opportunity. He stayed there for just one season (2018-19) before moving to Chhattisgarh where he is a regular.
He got his reputation as a clean striker of the ball while playing in Mumbai's famed Kanga League. Shashank Singh also has a good bowling credential. He is a medium pacer as well as an off-spinner.
Shashank Singh IPL career
Shashank Singh was bought by Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) in IPL 2017. He was with Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2019 to 2021. However, he made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2022. Punjab Kings bought him in the IPL 2024 auction.
Shashank Singh was bought at his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2024 auction. SRH had also bought him at the same price. He used to get Rs 30 lakh at Rajasthan Royals.
Shashank Singh IPL Auction Controversy
Shashank Singh made headlines even during the IPL 2024 auction. A confusion occurred after Shashank Singh was bought by Punjab Kings. The franchise looked confused if they had bought the 'real Shashank Singh'. Punjab later clarified that there were two players with the same name on the IPL auction list. "The right Shashank Singh has been onboarded," Punjab Kings CEO confirmed.
Shashank Singh led a team consisting Karthik, Dhawan and Badoni
In the recent DY Patil Group-managed T20 tournament in Mumbai, Shashank Singh led the B side of the eponymous group. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan and Ayush Badoni played under him.
