GT vs PBKS Most Valuable Player: Shreyas Iyer delivered a captain's knock of the highest order as Punjab Kings stormed to an 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 25.
The former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, now donning Punjab's red, announced his return to form in emphatic fashion, guiding his team to a formidable 243 for 5 with an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls.

His innings, packed with audacious strokeplay, not only set the stage for Punjab's triumph but also cemented his place as the most valuable player of the match.
Stepping in at No. 3, a position he had specifically targeted ahead of the season, Iyer wasted no time in stamping his authority. From the moment he flicked Kagiso Rabada for six early in his innings, it was clear that he was in no mood to play second fiddle. Sai Kishore, Gujarat's most successful bowler of the night with 3 for 30, felt the full force of Iyer's intent, conceding two maximums in a single over despite having claimed two wickets in two balls earlier.
Even Rashid Khan, the leg-spin wizard, wasn't spared. Iyer smashed two of Rashid's deliveries into the stands, pushing the Afghanistan star's figures to an uncharacteristic 1 for 48. The most telling aspect of Iyer's innings was his complete control over his shot selection. He exploited every scoring opportunity, even calling out a wide from the non-striker's end in the 15th over before dispatching the extra delivery for six.
As the final over began, Iyer remained just three runs away from a century. But in a selfless move, he encouraged his partner Shashank Singh to keep swinging, prioritizing the team's total over personal milestones. It was a display of leadership that went beyond the bat and reflected his commitment to Punjab Kings' ambitions this season.
Shreyas Iyer wasn't the only standout performer for Punjab. Young Priyansh Arya, whom Ricky Ponting had spoken highly of before the tournament, lived up to the hype with a brisk 47. The left-handed opener dominated the powerplay against Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, showcasing impeccable shot-making.
Meanwhile, Shashank Singh provided the finishing touches with a fiery 44* off 16 balls, including a final over assault on Siraj that yielded 23 runs. His fearless approach ensured Punjab's momentum remained unbroken until the end.
Gujarat Titans were never out of the chase, thanks to a blistering 74 from Sai Sudharsan and a 54 from Jos Buttler. At one stage, Titans had raced to 169/3 after 14 overs, 30 runs ahead of Punjab's tally at the same point. But the introduction of impact substitute Vijaykumar Vyshak turned the tide.
Vyshak's pinpoint yorkers in the 15th and 17th overs slowed Gujarat's progress, conceding just 10 runs in those two crucial overs. While Rutherford's late 46 kept the Titans in the hunt, the lack of a final flourish meant they could only manage 50 in the last five overs, compared to Punjab's 77.
With this win, Punjab Kings have sent a strong message to their IPL 2025 rivals. Iyer's leadership, combined with the fearlessness of the young brigade, makes them a team to watch. If Iyer continues in this vein, Punjab might finally be on the path to their maiden IPL title.
