GT vs RR, IPL 2025: Sai Sudharsan Eclipses Chris Gayle to Become 2nd Highest Run-Getter After First 30 Innings

By MyKhel Staff

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter B Sai Sudharsan on Wednesday (April 9) overtook several Indian Premier League (IPL) greats including Chris Gayle and Sachin Tendulkar to become the second highest run-scorer after the first 30 innings in the lucrative league.

Sai Sudharsan achieved the feat during GT's 58-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with a 53-ball 82. This was his third fifty of the season as the Tamil Nadu batter begins to emerge as the next Mr Consistent in IPL.

Sai Sudharsan overtakes Chris Gayle to a unique IPL milestone

With a knock that included 3 sixes and 8 fours, Sai Sudharsan took his overall score in the Indian Premier League to 1307 runs in 30 innings. While he remained behind former Australia batter Shaun Marsh, who has 1338 runs, Sai went past some heavyweights like Chris Gayle (1141), Kane Williamson (1096), and Matthew Hayden (1082).

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is the one that comes closest to Sai Sudharsan when it comes to Indians with most runs in IPL after first 30 innings. But even the CSK captain is nearly 400 runs behind the GT batter. Here is a look at the players with most runs after 30 innings:

  • Shaun Marsh - 1338 runs
  • Sai Sudharsan - 1307 runs
  • Chris Gayle - 1141 runs
  • Kane Williamson - 1096 runs
  • Matthew Hayden - 1082 runs
  • Mike Hussey - 1064 runs
  • Jonny Bairstow - 1058 runs
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad - 977 runs
  • Sachin Tendulkar - 975 runs
  • Adam Gilchrist - 931 runs

Following the win, Sai Sudharsan who bagged the player of the match award said, "IPL is the kind of tournament where you need the momentum from the start. Always a joy to contribute to team wins. The wicket was seaming a bit, so I took some time but knew we couldn't take a lot of time.

"Then I wanted to take the game deep. We wanted to have wickets for the death. We have the awareness if we lose early wickets that the set batter has to play long. I always try to see what I can do better, trying to improve my awareness and skill. I have worked a lot of basics which is helping me be a versatile batter."
