It will be a battle between two pre-tournament heavyweights when Gujarat Giants lock horns against Delhi Capitals in the WPL on Saturday (March 11).

Gujarat Giants are currently sitting 4th in the WPL table with 2 points after three matches. The capitals made a fantastic start to the season and are sitting 2nd in the table with 4 points after three matches. The Giants are led by India's Sneh Rana, who was appointed as captain after Beth Mooney was ruled out from the WPL. Delhi Capitals are led by Australian captain Meg Lanning, who has found herself in terrific form so far.

A win for GUJ-W will take them right in the mix for the playoff race, while a DEL-W win will take them level on points with Mumbai Indians, who are at the summit of the WPL table. The Capitals won their first two matches over UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians.

DEL-W captain Meg Lanning currently holds the Orange Cap as she has scored 185 runs after the first three matches. They also have the USA bowler Tara Norris who has picked up 6 wickets so far in the tournament. They are the only franchise to have an associate player in their squad in the WPL, which allows them to play a maximum of five overseas players in the lineup.

GUJ-W roped in Laura Wolvaardt as a replacement for Beth Mooney and have seen the likes of Sophia Dunkley and Ashleigh Gardner come into the fray in the last couple of games for them. Harleen Deol and Kim Garth have also racked up some decent performances and they will need a collective effort to topple the Capitals on Saturday.

Bowling has been a concern for the Giants as they have leaked runs in all their three matches. Despite having the likes of Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth, the inexperience of the Indian bowling contingent has caused problems for them at the death. Dunkley and Deol scored the runs for them in the first match and the form of the duo will be pivotal for them in the upcoming clashes. Against a strong bowling unit of Delhi, they need experienced campaigners to step up and score the bulk of the runs.

The DY Patil Sports Academy has seen some high-scoring games in the first couple of matches. But in the last match, the DEL-W were bamboozled by the spin of Mumbai and it is to be seen how the pitch plays on Saturday. A decent pitch is expected where the batters will get full value of their shots whereas bowlers can expect some assistance.
