GUJ-W vs UP-W Dream11 prediction, WPL 2023: Who are the best fantasy picks for Gujarat Giants vs UP Warriorz Dream11? GUJ-W vs UP-W pitch report, injury update, key players

By MyKhel Staff

Gujarat Giants will face off with UP Warriorz in match 17 of the Women's Premier League 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. The match will start at 3:30 PM IST.

Ashleigh Gardner

It's a do-or-die contest for Gujarat Giants, who need a win to stay in the race for the last playoff spot. The Sneh Rana-led side is last in the five-time table with four points. This is also their last league game.

UP Warriorz, on the other hand, are third with six points and will confirm their playoff spot if they win the game as they will be out of reach of Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are locked on four points.

GUJ-W vs UP-W injury update, key players

Gujarat Giants injury update Gujarat Giants have reported no fresh injury concerns reported ahead of the game and will be feeling comfortable about their batting form at least.

Gujarat Giants batters: Laura Wolvardt in hot form; In-form Harleen Deol pushed down the order

Ashleigh Gardner Laura Wolvaardt

The Giants' star in the last two games with the bat has been Laura Woolvaardt. The South African opener, who came as a replacement for injured skipper Beth Mooney, scored 57 and 68 to become the franchises' most crucial batter.

Opener S Meghana's batting form was a concern throughout the season but the batter showed improvement in form after being dropped for a game. The right-handed batter scored 31 runs off 32 after being sent to bat at No. 3.

English opener Sophia Dunkley's dip in form continued as she could only score 16 on a surface that seemed suitable for batting in the last game against RCB. The batter scored a stunning 65 early in the season but has gone quiet since then and has struggled against spin the most.

In-from Harleen Deol, who played some big knocks at No. 3 and often was the lone performer in the batting order, has been pushed down the order with Meghana moved to her slot.

Deol is now being asked to play the role of a finisher at No. 5 or 6 while sharing the brunt with Dayalan Hemalatha, who has played a few flashy knocks down the order after showing form and talent initially.

Gujarat Giants all-rounders: Ashleigh Gardner started to deliver

Australian star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner is finally feeling at home at Gujarat Giants. With the wickets turning slower, Gardner has taken nine wickets in seven outings. Her bat has delivered as well with innings of 41 and 51* respectively.

Seamer Kim Garth has been effective with the ball as well with nine wickets in six games with four of her dismissals coming in the last three games. The Irish-Australian didn't get to bat in the last two games with Giants' top-order firing but is a capable power hitter.

Skipper Sneh Rana has been an important spinner in the team as well with her disciplined bowling in the conditions favouring her bowling. She has picked three wickets in the last three games while her batting duties have been limited in the last couple of games too.

Gujarat Giants bowlers

Spinner Tanuja Kanwar is the only full-time bowler in Gujarat Giants bowling, who has done something worth talking about in the last few games. She earned the trust of her captain with a two-wicket spell against Delhi Capitals in a victory after taking a wicket against Mumbai as well. However, she gave away 50 runs in three overs against RCB in her last outing.

Likes on Mansi Joshi and Monica Patel have been lacklusture throughout the WPL.

UP Warriorz injury update, team news

There's no new update on the injury from UP Warriorz camp as well for the game.

UP Warrioz batters: Grace Harris makes herself undroppable

Grace Harris

Grace Harris played two good back-to-back knocks of 39 and 46 to ensure that the team management don't think beyond her while skipper Alyssa Healy (wicket-keeper) could only score nine runs in her last two games. However, Healy has been in good touch this tournament with knocks of 58 and 96 earlier.

Middle-order batter Kiran Navgire, who carries the reputation of a big hitter, has been difficult to watch off late as she played another slow knock of 12 runs off 16 balls. Shweta Sehrawat, meanwhile, has lost her place in the line-up after being demoted down the order.

UP Warriorz all-rounder: Deepti Sharma on a high after winning player of the match

Warriorz vice captain Deepti Sharma inspired her team to win in the last game as she won man of the match for her bowling, fielding and batting efforts in the last game. The right-arm off-break took nine wickets in seven games, four of which came in the last two games.

Tahlia McGrath, on the other hand, hasn't been entrusted with bowling duty this WPL but has been in good touch with the bat as she fired runs whenever she got going. Out of her six outings this season, the Australian kept herself relevant with knocks of 38, 50 and 90*.

Devika Vaidya might lose her opening spot as she hasn't fired in the last three games and was kept away from bowling duty in the last game too. U-19 star Parshavi Chopra made her WPL debut in the last game and the leg spinner gave away 35 runs in her quota of overs while the wait for her maiden wicket continues.

UP Warriorz bowlers: Sophie Ecclestone takes joint lead in Purple Cap race

Sophie Ecclestone has been the strike bowler of UP Warriroz with 12 wickets in seven games. The off-spinner has taken nine of her wickets in the last five games, including a four-for against RCB and a crucial 3-15 in the win against Mumbai Indians in the last game.

Ecclestone also showed her batting skills when she forged an unbeaten stand to win with Deepti, who has been her bowling pair this WPL.

Left-arm orthodox Rajeshwari Gayakwad is the third spinner in the team and is often asked to open the bowling as well. She initially proved ineffective but bowled an impressive 2/16 in the last game.

Left-arm pacer Anjali Sarwani has been the sole pacer in the line-up with Shabnim Ismail and Lauren Bell unable to find a place due to overseas quota. Sarwani is seldom asked to bowl her entire quota of overs as she has often proved costly but did take a wicket in the last game.
