Senior journalist and broadcaster Joy Bhattacharya and badminton star PV Sindhu came out in support of Vinesh Phogat.
Vinesh Phogat had a stunning run on Tuesday as won she back-to-back three matches to become the first women's wrestler to enter Olympics final. In the Round of 16 she stunned reigning olympic champions and world number one Yui Susaki of Japan and followed it up with two more tactically brilliant wins over the wrestlers from Ukraine and Cuba. She thwarted the challenge from Cuban wrestler with 5:0 margin.
But the unfortunate turn of events mean that Vinesh Phogat will return home without a medal. Yusneylis Guzman Lopez - Phogat's Cuban opponent in semi-final - will now compete in the final against USA's Sarah Hildebrandt.
