Jalandhar, Oct 30: It was one of the most memorable days for Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra. After a nine-long-year of courtship, the duo tied the nuptial knots on Thursday, Oct 29.
However, violence, dharna, protest outside their wedding venue marred the celebration. The newly-wed couple and their relatives were disturbed by the incidents and Harbhajan was forced to come out of his house and apologise to media persons.
It has been reported that bouncers hired by Harbhajan allegedly snatched and smashed cameras from photo journalists who had come to Jalandhar to cover the high-profile marriage ceremony.
According to sources, the bouncers also allegedly manhandled the media persons who later sat on dharna outside the wedding venue.
Citing the situation outside his house, Harbhajan came out and spoke to all journalists personally. Hearing the arguments, the cricketer apologised to the media persons.
However, a police case has been filed against unidentified person(s) in connection with the violence outside the house of the cricketer.
The senior off-spinner of Team India and the Bollywood actress got married in a gurudwara in Jalandhar, the hometown of the former. Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar attended the ceremony to bless the couple.
A grand reception will be held in New Delhi on Sunday, Nov 1. It is expected to be a star-studded affair where cricketers, actors, ministers including Prime Minister Narendra Modi too are expected to be present.
