Harbhajan Singh suggests modification in India's T20 World Cup squad after batting mayhem in Hyderabad

Harbhajan Singh has asked if Abhishek Sharma should be added in the reserve list of India squad for T20 World cup 2024. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener smashed unbeaten 75 runs off just 28 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The innings from the young southpaw consisted of eight fours and six sixes as SRH chased down the 166-run target in just 9.4 overs. His batting partner Travis Head scored unbeaten 89 off 30 to script Hyderabad's thumping 10-wicket win.

The innings from Abhishek Sharma impressed many including Harbhajan Singh. The former India off-spinner was left awestruck after the batting mayhem from Abhishek and Head. He ended up asking the BCCI selectors if Abhishek Sharma should be added to the 4-member reserve list for India's upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

"What the hell just happened in Hyd #Travishead & @IamAbhiSharma4 Hitting sixes like taking singles. Chased 165 in 9.4 overs . Should Team India include Abhishek in the bench strength ?? @IPL @BCCI @SunRisers," he wrote on X.

India have named Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed as the four travelling reserves. Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been picked in the main 15-member squad, and will very likely open with Rohit Sharma.

Further , Mike Hesson has also backed Abhishek Sharma to get into the India squad after the T20 World Cup. He said a handful of India youngsters are making all the right noises, but Abhishek Sharma would still be in the reckoning.

"Hesson would say that there will be a few changes to the Indian team after the World Cup and Abhishek would be in the mix with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. "Oh, look, I think so. I mean, I think his ability to take on spin in the power play. And he's improved greatly against pace," Hesson told JioCinema.

"He is a high quality player. He's a boundary hitter. He is a six hitter and no doubt post World Cup, and he will start to make some changes, whether it be Jaiswal, himself or Shubman Gill. To be fair, there's a few. There's plenty of names, but he will definitely be one that will have plenty of people talking about," Hesson added about Abhishek, who has scored 401 runs at an average of 36.45 and a strike rate of 205.64.
