Harbhajan Singh to marry Geeta Basra on October 29

Jalandhar, Aug 22: India's senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is set to begin a new innings in life as he will marry his long-time friend and Bollywood actress Geeta Basra in October this year.

According to Chandigarh's "The Tribune" newspaper today (August 22), the couple's wedding ceremony will be held in Jalandhar on October 29.

"During his visit to Jalandhar last month, Bhajji gave me a verbal invitation and asked me to be ready for his marriage on October 29," an unnamed Congress leader was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The 35-year-old Harbhajan is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team for the 3-Test series. He played the opening Test in Galle but was dropped for the second in Colombo, which started on Thursday (August 20).

"The off-spinner, during his recent visit to Jalandhar, asked his friends to be ready for his big day. The marriage will be solemnised on October 29 at Hotel Cabana on the Jalandhar-Phagwara road, the report added.

"The bookings for the gala event have already been done at the hotel but the staff have been asked to maintain confidentiality."

In June this year, 31-year-old Geeta had said it was "upsetting" to hear rumours about her and Harbhajan. She had also praised the cricketer as a "strong-headed person".

"He is a very strong-headed person and that shows on-screen (in matches)... He got success at an early age and still he is so grounded and humble. He loves his game. I want to learn that from him," Geeta had said.

About the wedding, she had explained, "Whenever that (marriage) happens, everyone will come to know. It's really upsetting as every time there are rumours going around about my marriage. It is not like I am hiding anything. Whenever it happens we will tell (the media)."
