Harbhajan Singh Urges Gary Kirsten to Step Down From Pakistan Role & Come Back to Coach Team India

By MyKhel Staff

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has urged Gary Kirsten to step down from his role as head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team and return to coach Team India.

In an allegedly a fake report, Kirsten had slammed the Pakistan players for their performance and questioned their approach after they suffered an early exit in the T20 World Cup.

According to Geo News, Kirsten expressed concern over the fitness of the players and stated that they are not up to the mark. But those quotes from the coach turned out to be fake.

However, the former Indian cricket Harbhajan issued a sternly worded statement, encouraging Kirsten to "not waste time" on Pakistan cricket and added that it would be nice to see the 2011 World Cup-winning coach return to India.

Harbhajan took to social media and request the rare gem in Kirsten to return to Team India, who are also on the lookout for a head coach once the tenure of Rahul Dravid comes to an end after the T20 World Cup 2024.

"Don't waste ur time there Gary .. Come back to Coach Team INDIA .. Gary Kirsten One of the rare .. A Great Coach ,Mentor, Honest nd very dear friend to all in our 2011 Team .. our winning coach of 2011 worldcup . Special man Gary" Harbhajan wrote in a post on X.

Kirsten's tenure as white-ball coach of Pakistan has started on a sour note, losing the T20I series against England followed by the group stage exit in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan ended their campaign with a three-wicket win over Ireland in Florida on Sunday, a dead rubber after India and USA, from Group A, advanced to the Super 8 stage.

Placed in Group A, Pakistan endured back-to-back defeats against the co-hosts USA and then to their bitter rival, India. They bounced back with two wins on the trot, but it wasn't enough to turn their woeful campaign around and secure a spot in the Super 8.

The former South African opener had led India to victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup as a coach, and he has since worked with South Africa and a few T20 clubs across the world.

His return as coach of Team India seems unlikely in the near furure with Gautam Gambhir set to be appointed for the role in the next few weeks. Gambhir is reportedly also bringing his own backroom staff.
