Hardik Pandya Suffers Fresh Injury ahead of India A duties, Return to Cricket Delayed Again

Hardik Pandya's much-anticipated return to competitive cricket has hit another roadblock, with the India all-rounder diagnosed with a symptomatic right tibial bone stress response.

The latest setback has ruled him out of the upcoming India A one-day series against Australia A and has also cast doubt over his availability for India's white-ball tour of New Zealand.

As per a report from Cricbuzz, scans have confirmed that there is no structural bone damage or established stress fracture. However, the injury to his right shin requires careful management, with such problems typically taking around four to six weeks to recover from. Pandya has currently been advised two weeks of rest by the medical team at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

The development comes at an unfortunate stage of his comeback. Pandya had been selected for India A's three 50-over matches against Australia A in Puducherry, scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11, subject to fitness clearance. The matches were expected to provide an important competitive test after he had been away from cricket since the IPL.

His return to international cricket is now likely to be pushed back further. India's New Zealand tour begins with five T20Is from October 22 to November 1, followed by five ODIs from November 4 to 15. His participation in the tour remains uncertain following the latest injury.

Pandya's absence is significant given his dual role as a middle-order batter and seam-bowling all-rounder. India coach Gautam Gambhir recently highlighted that combination while discussing the team's approach to his return.

"Very few teams have a player like that who can bowl 10 overs for you, plus bat at number six or seven, plus with that impact. So the focus right now is just that," India head coach Gautam Gambhir said on Jiostar.

But Hardik's lingering injuries have continued to hamper his game time, which may well be a big concern for India ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The India all-rounder was similarly ruled out in the middle of the World Cup in 2023, and any such replication would be a massive blow for Shubman Gill and company.
