Hardik Pandya traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans - How does it benefit MI?

Gujarat Titans have let go of their captain Hardik Pandya to Mumbai on an all-cash deal ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

The move has taken place on Sunday (November 26) after the IPL retention lists were announced. Although Pandya was listed as a retained player by the Titans, the Indian all-rounder has subsequently left his home state team for the Paltans.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has now become a Mumbai Indians player as he has switched from Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal, which meant Mumbai Indians have paid the Titans INR 15 crore for Hardik's signature.

The 30-year-old started his career with Mumbai Indians, and after a two-year stint with the Titans, he has returned home.

Cameron Green traded to RCB

At the same time, Mumbai Indians have strengthened their financial capability to support the Pandya deal by trading Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is another straight cash transaction with a value of INR 17.5 crore, equivalent to the league value of the Australian all-rounder.

Hardik Pandya deal is a win-win for Mumbai Indians

This strategic financial move not only allows for the completion of the Pandya deal with Gujarat Titans but also sets up the five-time champions with significant resources for the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. This auction is set to take place in Dubai on December 19.

The return of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians marks a significant milestone in the team's strategy. His performance has been instrumental in many of the team's victories, and his return is expected to boost the team morale for the IPL 2024 season.

Injury-stricken England pacer Jofra Archer has been released by the Indians as well.

The releases of Cameron Green and Jofra Archer give them a significant leeway in the auction table. From the Pandya and Green deal, Mumbai Indians have a net profit of INR 2.5 crores, which will be added to their auction kitty. And MI would be much happier at the end of the deal.

The flagship departures of Green and Archer have been filled by Hardik Pandya and Romario Shepherd, as the latter was traded in from Lucknow Super Giants.

Pandya was part of India's World Cup 2023 squad but was withdrawn midway after an ankle injury. The 30-year-old is expected to make a return in 2024 and is likely to be available for the Paltans for the upcoming season.
