Hardik Pandya could just watch as pacer Akash Madhwal took inputs from former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma before starting to bowl the decisive final over against Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 19.

Mumbai Indians had the option to go either with Madhwal or Romario Shepherd as Punjab Kings needed 12 runs off the final six balls to win their home match at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur.

Hardik Pandya showed trust in Akash Madhwal and was discussing the field plan with the uncapped star before Rohit Sharma walked in and showed authority. In a video clip which has gone viral, Hardik can be seen taking a back seat as soon as Rohit steps in to know about Madhwal's plan.

The 30-year-old started the over with a wide before Kagiso Rabada got run out and Punjab Kings were bundled out for 183 with five balls to spare. The nine-run win helped Mumbai Indians jump to the seventh spot in the ten-team points table. The win was Mumbai's first in away games of the IPL 2024.
