In an unexpected turn of events at the WBBL 10 draft on September 1, Indian cricket star Harmanpreet Kaur found herself without a team.
The draft, which was anticipated to be a showcase of top international talent, highlighted an unusual moment as Kaur, the Indian captain who had led her team to victory in the Women's Premier League, was overlooked by all franchises.

This draft was a landmark for Indian cricketers, with a record six Indian players making it onto WBBL teams. Smriti Mandhana, having already secured a spot with Adelaide Strikers before the draft, was confirmed for another season with her franchise.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Deepti Sharma joined the Melbourne Stars, and Jemimah Rodrigues was picked up by Brisbane Heat. Shikha Pandey also joined Rodrigues in Brisbane, and Hemalatha Dayalan was selected by Perth Scorchers. Additionally, Yastika Bhatia was signed by Melbourne Stars, bringing the total number of Indian players in this season to six, a first in WBBL history.
Despite this significant representation, Kaur's absence was felt keenly. Known for her powerful batting and leadership skills, Kaur's exclusion was a surprising and puzzling development. Alongside Kaur, Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav also failed to secure a spot, marking a stark contrast to the high number of Indian players selected.
The reasons behind Kaur's omission remain unclear. Her track record and experience seemed to make her an ideal candidate for any team, yet as the draft concluded, the cricketing world was left to speculate about the missed opportunity for one of the sport's leading figures.
