Harmanpreet retains captaincy, Richa Ghosh released for 12th standard exams as India Women ODI squad vs NZ announced

The BCCI Women on Thursday, October 17 India Women squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand which kick starts from October 24 in Ahmedabad.

Haramanpreet Kaur has retained her place despite India Women's early exit from the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, and Smriti Mandhana will also continue to be her deputy.

Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosa was unavailable for selection because of her 12th standard board exams, the BCCI Women revealed. Spinner Asha Sobhana was also unavailable for selection due to a knee injury, while pacer Pooja Vastrakar was rested.

The absence of these three players has allowed the Women's Selection Committee to name four new faces in the 16-member squad. Seam-bowling all-rounders Sayali Satghare and Saima Thakor, leg-spinner Priya Mishra, and middle-order batter Tejal Hasabnis have earned maiden India call-ups. Saima was a travelling reserve for the T20 World Cup, while Priya was named as a non-traveling reserve for the ICC showpiece event which will conclude on Sunday, October 2020.

All the players part of the Women's T20 World Cup except Sajeevan Sajana have been retained. Sajana played the two matches for India Women against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, but was dropped for the fourth and and last group stage game of India against Australia Women. She got to bat only in the match Pakistan in which he scored unbeaten four runs.

All the three matches of the series will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After the opener on October 24. The second and third ODIs will be played on October 27 and October 29 respectively.
