New Delhi, July 9: The latest ICC Men's Player Rankings witnessed a major shake-up at the top of the Test batting charts, with England's Harry Brook reclaiming the No.1 Test batter spot from Joe Root after a match-defining century at Edgbaston. However, India captain Shubman Gill's twin tons in the second Test could only take him to sixth spot in the latest ICC Rankings released on Wednesday (July 9).
Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the second Test as part of his workload management, continues to be the numero uno in bowling charts. The right-arm pacer, who is likely to make a comeback in the Lord's Test, achieved a career-best rating in January this year.

Brook, the 25-year-old right-handed batter, dazzled with a composed 158 in the first innings of the second Test against India, helping England post a fighting total before India stormed to victory in the Test. Brook now sits comfortably at the top, 18 rating points ahead of former No.1 and teammate Joe Root.
But while Brook's rise made headlines, India's new Test captain Shubman Gill grabbed the spotlight with a performance for the ages. Gill smashed 269 and 161 across two innings, guiding India to a comprehensive win in his first match as Test skipper.
His twin tons saw him climb 15 places to a career-best No.6, now just 79 rating points behind Brook, signalling his rapid emergence among the Test elite. The top five ahead of him include Root (2), Kane Williamson (3), Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), and Steve Smith (5).
England's Jamie Smith also made significant strides in just his third Test, vaulting 16 places to No.10 after scores of 184* and 88* at Birmingham. Across the globe, Wiaan Mulder delivered a historic knock of 367 not out for South Africa against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo-opting to declare rather than pursue Brian Lara's record. The unselfish act boosted him 34 places to 22nd among Test batters and 12 places to No.3 among Test all-rounders.
With 898 rating points, Bumrah continues to reign as the No. 1-ranked Test bowler, while his teammate, Mohammed Siraj, who picked up a five-for in the first innings in Birmingham, rose six places to 22nd following a sharp showing against England. The West Indies also enjoyed gains, with Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph each climbing six spots to 29th and 31st, respectively. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja is similarly unmoved at the top of the all-rounder charts.
In ODIs, Shubman Gill continues to lead the batting rankings, while Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka moved up two spots to No.6 after his side's 2-1 series win over Bangladesh. Kusal Mendis, named Player of the Series, climbed 10 places to No.10, marking a strong resurgence. On the bowling front, Wanindu Hasaranga rose 11 places to No.8, thanks to his nine wickets across the three ODIs.
