In a significant leadership shift, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Harry Brook as the new captain for both the ODI and T20I sides.
The 26-year-old replaces Jos Buttler, who stepped down from the role after England's underwhelming campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan last month.

Brook expressed his pride in the appointment, describing it as a childhood dream come true. "Leading England is a huge honour. Growing up playing at Burley in Wharfedale, I always hoped to wear the England shirt. To now be captain of the white-ball team is incredibly special," he said.
Brook's rise through the ranks has been swift and impressive. Since debuting in January 2022, the Yorkshire batter has featured in 26 ODIs, amassing 816 runs with an average of 34.00, including a highest score of 110. In T20Is, he has played 44 matches, contributing valuable runs and earning a reputation as one of England's most reliable middle-order batters. He also played a key role in England's triumphant ICC T20 World Cup campaign in 2022.
Notably, Brook has gained leadership experience over the past year, having served as vice-captain in both white-ball formats. He also led England in an ODI series against Australia last September when Buttler was unavailable. His leadership credentials stretch back to youth level, where he captained the Young Lions during the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup.
Currently ranked second in the ICC Test batting rankings, Brook brings not only form but also a competitive edge to England's white-ball future. Reflecting on the challenges ahead, he stated, "There's so much depth in English cricket. I'm eager to build on that and work towards winning more series and global trophies. I'll give everything I have to this role."
Brook's tenure as full-time captain begins later this May when England hosts the West Indies for a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. With fresh energy and ambition, Brook will be tasked with steering England into a new era as they rebuild from recent setbacks and set their sights on future global titles.
